The conflict between ecology and economy is leading to both an environmental and social decline, the forces of globalisation and national development are at cross purposes, as are the systems that drive economic progress and social communities.

It is becoming increasingly clear that to fully understand the problems that plague ecology, economics and sociology, we need to understand how systems across these levels interact with each other. It is only then that we can make true progress towards world sustainability.
